Q & A Time from Facebook! 9/24/2011

1. How can I get myself to stop eating after dinner? I eat great all day and then lean & green dinner but at 8pm I realllly want a piece of toast or some crackers.

If you want that piece of toast, then eat Ezekiel bread. It is flourless and is made from 4 grains and 4 beans. If you’re so hungry, it must mean that you’re not eating enough throughout the day! Throw some satisfying nuts in there for satiety.

2. how are you able to stay so positive? also how do you manage stress

Hmm…I think I have just always been a positive person. I try to not let the menial things in life bother me. I try to focus on what’s making me smile. And I surround myself with people that make life better. Forget the negative people! You don’t need them! Ohhh stress. The best way to go about it is to let out the congested energy through a workout, a bubble bath, cooking, or venting to someone who will listen. Take yourself out of the situationf or a while and come back when you have a clear head.

3. How can I get my hubby on board with the health eating? He’s naturally really skinny and fit, so he eats pretty much whatever he wants, and I want him to be my accountability partner. It’s hard when he’s scarfing down big macs every week. Lol.

The desire to life a healthy lifestyle has to come from within. You can’t force it on him. Maybe just start making healthier food (but make it attractive looking) and be like, hey try this! And maybe he’ll start liking it. And hs body will crave it. Also tell him that you need his support in this journey and that it would help if he did this with you. Even in small doses.

4. how did you train for your half marathon??

Honestly, I didn’t have a training schedule and I really should have. What I did do was start running longer distances every week. I started with just 1 mile a time on the treadmill back in Jan/Feb and then I slowly either increased my speed, incline, and or distance to make it harder. The whole month before the race I ran anywhere between 4-6 miles a day a few times a week.

5. How often do you give your muscles a break from working out? I feel really bad if i don’t workout everyday and so i usually don’t give them much rest. Is there a way to workout but rest them? :)

I usually train 5-6x a week an hr at a time. A good way to workout and relax your mind and body is with yoga.

6. Hi Cassey! :) So, I want the swimsuit model abs (not incredibly muscular, but still defined). Will oblique exercises help this or should I just do abs?

Not only should you do ab AND oblique exercises, you should also do more cardio and some form of strength training (pilates counts too) for overall fat melting. Don’t forget to eat clean as well. That is going to be your BIGGEST help towards getting “swimsuit model abs”.

7. How long have you been working out and eating healthy?

Hmm that’s a good question. I’ve always worked out and eaten fairly healthy most of my life minus college. In college I ate fried things and drank soda without thinking. (Eek!) I started playing tennis as a 6 yr old and then was on the varsity tennis team all 4 yrs of HS. Then in college I took up Pilates and some kickboxing. After graduating I was still doing the Pilates but added in some BODYPUMP. It wasn’t until Spring 2011 that I started SERIOUSLY weight lifting and eating clean. That’s when I started seeing the quickest results.

8. is it ok to take a 5-10 minutes resting after every workout?does it make the fat burning process any slower? thanx for the opportunity!

YES!!! If your body says rest, then rest! But do it out of exhaustion not out of laziness. You need to take breaks so that you can actually do the workout properly and with more energy. More energy and enthusiasm throughout workout = more calories burned.

9. Are the beginner workouts for an everyday routine?

You can def. do them every day. If you feel like you’re getting bored then move on to some of my older POP Pilates videos. There’s always modifications so don’t be intimidated.

10. Hey Cassey :) So I’ve done most of your workouts and my body has slimmed down a lot, but I’m struggling with getting rid of the “love handles”. I do the workouts related to muffin top and love handles daily, but just wondering if there is any way i can see more results?

Yes, you must now do more cardio and eat clean. That means running, kickboxing, dancing, jumping rope, or doing any of my POP Cardios to burn fat. Then you must eat clean. This means only eating whole and natural foods – cut out the refined carbs, sugary and fried things.

11. what is one thing you cannot live without?

Oh yay! A fun question!!! Hmmm…I guess I’d have to say…my contacts. If I didn’t have my contacts I’d be a non-functioning human. I’m seriously pretty blind.

12. Breakfast is my favorite meal and duh most important!do you have any more breakfast recipes you’d like to share?

Well I’m pretty simple. I love baked oatmeal, protein pancakes, egg white veggie omelets, whole grain cereal in almond milk, and fruit & greek yogurt parfaits. Recipes for GALS in Figure and Bodybuilding has GREAT baked oatmeal recipes. Also, Ohsheglows.com has a TON of great healthy recipes.

13. I asked this before but not sure if you saw it or not. Here is the question again: I know this is not a Pilates related suggestion but can you please do a video/blogpost about your weight lifting routine/suggestions? I know you did lots of weight lifting for the bikini diet and I’d like to know what you did for that. Thanks a ton!!!

Lucky you! Just wrote about this here.

14. Are you ever going to make work out dvd’s????

YEAH! I totally want to! But it will happen after I make the app!

15. how do you make money? I worry about you doing all these great things for us for free! I want to make sure you are taken care of since you take such good care of us.

Hahaha, aww what a sweet question. Well I don’t mind doing the free workouts. I love teaching. So that’s fine. I make some $ off of the ads on my blog and videos. But in the end I hope that you guys can support me and purchase the app (it will be cheap though), a DVD, or one of my yoga bags!

16. how to get rid of cellulite on my thighs?

Here’s an old old old post I did on cellulite. Click here.

17. Would you say ab workouts are more effective with a stability ball?

No. But I will say that doing a VARIETY of ab workouts with and without equipment is effective.

18. How do you workout everyday if you are a high school student with lots of homework daily?

Join a sports team! Then you won’t have to think about it. Or even wake up a little earlier to squeeze a 10 min workout in.

19. I’m pretty much a vegetarian (I only eat turkey and tuna on rare occasions) but most of my family is not..it can get pretty awkward lol so I wanted to know when I go to a meal that they have prepared and it is basically only meat dishes or prepared in ways that I don’t care for (fried, bacon grease ect) what do I do!? I usually end up eating some of it to be polite and because I get teased if I don’t but I really don’t like to do that…help me lol

NOOO!!!! Don’t compromise your health to be polite!!!! I am guessing you’re young. If they are teasing you it is because they don’t know how to admit that eating fried greasy stuff is actually harming them. I’d ask to prepare a dish for the family at dinner every night. Then at least you’d have your own meal. And then you can introduce them to what’s actually nutritious to eat.

20. How do you get back on track after a vacation? I’m finding it so hard

Start introducing small bits of it back into your life gradually. You’ll be ok :) Begin first by eating cleaner.

21. Do you think adding supplements to your diet is essential for a person who works out (from strength training to cardio) ? What supplements do you take?

The only supplement I take is whey protein. But only on strength training days post workout. I don’t think it’s actually necessary unless you’re looking for QUICK results. People get enough protein from whole foods like chicken breast, milk, eggs, and greek yogurt daily! It’s just that whey protein is faster absorbed for quicker muscle repair.

22. My lower body is larger than my upper body and I would really like to trim it down. How often should I work my hips, buns and thighs without bulking them up? And how do I get rid of this terrible cellulite on my butt?

You won’t bulk up your hips, buns, and thighs by working them out. Unless you’re carrying a huge bar on your back while doing a million squats. You should aim to target them a few times a week an hr each time. Mix up any of my workouts that will hone in on your “trouble” zones! Also be sure to do some cardio and eat clean. That will melt fat. See above answer for cellulite question.

23. How long will it take for me to loose my muffin top/love handles & flabby arms if I workout 3 - 4 times per week? Jump Rope + Your muffin top & other workout video ;) About 1hr workout in total~ Thanks! :)

I don’t know where you are now so I def cannot say how long it will take you to lose it. But I can promise you that if you keep up with the routine, you will see changes maybe even in the first week. In 2 weeks for sure.

Burning questions answered!

Q & A time with Cassey - this was fun! I omitted any questions that were like “Cassey I’m 5’2” 150 lbs and love to eat cheeseburgers. How do I lose 20 lbs in 8 weeks?” You can ask me that in the new Blogilates Forum which I comb through everyday. Here we go, in no order whatsoever…

1. What’s your favorite movie and/or type of movie? This is really geeky but I really liked Social Network. I found it inspirational and was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I also love GREASE. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Musicals and romantic comedies are the best.

2. Are you a bookworm or do you prefer magazines? If so what kinds? :) (apart from “pilates books are my favorite thing in the world!”) Umm, no I am NOT a bookworm at all! What I read is mostly self help stuff like nutrition books or bios about successful entrepreneurs. My latest read is the Zappos CEO’s book “Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, & Purpose”.

3. Do you ever have days where you go crazy and just eat chocolate and ice cream and biscuits and anything else bad you can get your hands on?? ;) OF COURSE! Sometimes there’s days where I feel like I screwed up and ate a bad breakfast so I’m like, eff this, I’m eating this tub of ice cream cuz I wanna.

4. What’s your favorite song of the moment? Hmm, I don’t have a fave song right now. It’s kinda sad. Any suggestions?

5. What bands do you like? I like anything pop obviously, gangster songs annoy me, love Michael Jackson, Daft Punk, Little Boots, Ce Jeu, Maroon 5…

6. Why do you live where you live? I am in Boston right now.

7. how old are you :) 24

8. Were you ever a chubby kid growing up or were you always skinny and or conscious of your weight? Oh man, there is such a back story to this. Yes. I was a chubby kid. I had a double chin in my 2nd grade picture day photo. Eew. One time this other kid asked me why I was so fat in elementary school and I cried for days. I thinned out in high school because I was on the tennis team all 4 years. My thinnest being the height I am now (5’5”) was about 110 lbs sophomore year of high school. No definition though. When I went to college, I had up and down years but pretty much was my heaviest ever my Junior year I think…even went up to 135 lbs I one point. I have always worked out but was not as knowledgeable as I am now about diet and nutrition. I am now 118 lbs, strong, and happy.

9. What made you decide to make bags and mats? I couldn’t find a fashionable mat bag carrier back in college so I decided to make one for myself. When my students ended up liking the Beverly Bowtie so I contacted a manufacturer in the US and made a bunch. Luckily people bought them! On to round 2 now which will include gym bags and men’s yoga bags.

10. How do you stay motivated? I work hard and I don’t ever want to do anything that will “ruin” my health and my body. I like feeling stronger and faster. I also love clothes so looking good in them keeps me motivated. It’s the truth!

11. What is your diet like? Lots of lean protein and veggies. Love fruits. Love yogurt. I don’t eat rice, bread, or refined carbs. It makes me bloated and makes me look preggers. Yes, as an Asian, it was hard to explain to my parents why I can’t eat rice. I’ll eat oatmeal sometimes and once in a while I’ll make some awesome whole wheat muffins if I am really craving a bread type thing. But that’s on occasion.

12. Are you tidy? I used to be. Recently, NO!!!

13. Do you have a routine day to day? Since I quit my corporate job in the fashion world, my day to day routine consists of waking up, eating breakfast, checking email, commenting on tumblr, facebook, twitter, and youtube, teaching my afternoon pilates mat or pilates reformer classes, eating lunch, working on design stuff while checking email, teaching more evening classes, working out (this can be in the AM or PM depending on when I wake up), eating dinner, more computer time, and sleep eventually! I’ll film vids and hang out with friends on Fridays or the weekends.

14. Do you have any pets? I have one turtle. His name is Turtle.

15. Do you keep a journal? No, I used to then my sister found it :P

16. What’s your guilty pleasure(s)? Totally fried ice cream.

17. Do you miss your family? No, my parents have always been very controlling. I love them but I like my independence.

18. What would be your desert island must haves? Wow that’s a toughie. Umm. Well if the desert island had outlets and wifi then my computer. BUT I am guessing not. So pens, pencils, and paper for drawing. A big hat to protect me from the sun. A LifeStraw so that I can drink water from any pond without dying. And a real buff guy who can help me build a hut, hunt for food, and construct a boat so we can get outta there!

19. How do you keep your hair so nice all the time? I occasionally get trims and I just use regular Fructis Garnier shampoo and conditioner. I straighten my hair when I want to look put together but it is naturally wavy.

20. I want to know if you have a favorite magazine! Women’s Health, SHAPE Magazine.

21. Favorite brand of clothes? :D I used to be addicted to anything Anthropologie, wasn’t partial to any brand in particular. But now I feel like they are just so darn expensive! I love Stella McCartney for Adidas and Lululemon.

22. Where are you from? I was born in LA and grew up in the Bay Area in CA. My ethnicity? Chinese and Vietnamese.

23. Do you have dog or a cat:)? No but secretly I want a super duper giant crazy dog and micro mini itty bitty dog.

24. Are you shopping freak? Yes. Totally. My closets are OVERFILLED with clothes and shoes. I have a separate closet for workout clothes only.

25. Do you polish your nails:)? Yes when I am feeling pretty :)

26. Do you love children? Do I love children? I think everyone does!

27. Do you take any supplements? If so what kind. I only have vanilla whey protein powder. That’s it. I mainly use it for my protein pancakes.

28. How many languages can you speak? I can speak Vietnamese with an American accent and English. I won’t even count Spanish but I can read, write, and speak a little.

29. What’s you favourite television series? Glee!!! I am going to see their concert in a week!

30. Are you a slasher movie fan or do you prefer romantic chick flicks? I HATE scary movies. Rom-coms all the way.

31. Do you ever have a fat day when you allow yourself naughty treats? :) Yes. I can eat like Adam Richman on Man V. Food. I’ve made a donut cheeseburger before :P

32. What did you go to China for? To find a new bag manufacturer! And to look at new fabrics.

33. You eat so healthily, but what is you dirty little food secret? I mentioned what my bad food faves are in the other questions, but my dirty food secret is that I can eat SO MUCH that you’d think my stomach was a bottomless pit. I said I CAN. But I don’t :P

34. When did you get into your first serious relationship? End of my junior year in college. (To the person who wrote this, I know there was another part to this question but I can’t really answer it right now)

35. What is your favorite non-healthy food? :) Tempura fried ice cream. Vanilla ice cream in a waffle cone. Strawberry cheesecake. Egg custard tarts. Peanut butter in the heaping spoonfuls. OMG dying.

36. Do you live in L.A.? I want to move there so so bad, is it nice? I used to! I was born there and went to college there. I love it. Traffic is bad though. Really, really bad.

37. Is being a pilates & fitness instructor your full time job? and what got you into it? It’s not a full time job. I teach a dozen times a week but my main job is running oGorgeous, soon to be Flomme.

38. Do your parents support you being a health/pilates teaching person? Haha, teaching is something I do because I love it. My parents used to ask me to quit teaching back in college and focus on my studies. I was like no WAYYY! Teaching was the only thing keeping me sane through school as a Bio major. But honestly, I love leading classes so much - the energy is just invigorating.

Burning Questions?

Hey guys! Thought this would be cool and interactive…Do you have a fun question you wanna ask me about things non fitness related? Post below in the comments or simply reply! Think it’s time we get to know each other better :)

Love, Cassey

PS: I know I’ve been majorly slacking on the tumblr q and a’s but since a lot of the questions repeat themselves I’m gonna add a frequently asked questions section in the next couple weeks. So keep messaging me, you’re being heard!

Anonymous asked:
Hi!
I am curious, do you have fitness or nutrition role models?? Who are your favorite celebs and athletes??
Cassey: Oh wow! A new type of question. I love it!
For nutrition, I really like my Nutrition Diva podcasts. The woman’s name is Monica Reinagel and she is board-certified Licensed Nutritionist and a professionally-trained chef. She delivers quick tips on hot foodie topics that are clear and easy to understand. I am actually going to do a giveaway of her latest book Nutrition Diva’s Secrets for a Healthy Diet: What to Eat, What to Avoid, and What to Stop Worrying About. More on this later!
Fitness role models that I admire are the instructors that are able to create a community and a loyal following with their passion for their format. The creators of formats like BODYPUMP, TurboJam, Hot Hula etc. were made by instructors who had a vision of sharing their workouts on a larger scale. They helped hundreds of thousands of people change their lives, and they did it in a fun and creative way. They had a vision and they made it happen. They impacted lives. These are the people I look up to. Creatives. Entrepreneurs. Doers. Risk takers. I hope to one day share Pop Pilates with many more people as well.
My favorite athlete is Apolo Anton Ohno. He is an Olympic speed skater and I’ve had a crush on him since high school! Haha. I also got to meet him at a Dancing with the Stars taping, and we hugged. Twice!
I don’t really have favorite celebrities, but in terms of who I think is gorgeous…the list includes Halle Barry, Mila Kunis, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba, Vanessa Hudgens, Kim Kardashian (sorry! I have to!), Eva Longoria, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Megan Fox. For males, Zac Efron is pretty cute. Mark Zuckerberg is pretty inspirational. Oh and this is shameless but I really like Jake Pavelka from the Bachelor! He is hot and that is all.

Hi Cassey!
You really are the best. I’ve been doing your videos for over half a year now and have gotten my little brother (12) and sister (14) hooked too! Whenever people ask me how I keep so fit, I tell them about my little secret: Pop Pilates!
It’s obvious that you’re super passionate about what you do, and I love that! I’m curious about what other things in your life keep you happy and balanced. What are your hobbies and interests outside of working out and eating healthy?
Are you dating anyone or do you have any pets?
Sorry, maybe you think these questions are too personal or irrelevant, but we’re all friends here, right? Plus I think it’s necessary to emphasize the importance of a full and balanced lifestyle ; )
Thanks for all you do! It’s amazing that you’ve made these videos accessible to people of all ages and to people who may not be able to afford workout videos or a gym membership.
Cheers,
Ella
Cassey: Oh a Q&A session about me! How fun! Ok here it goes:
Q - What are your hobbies and interests outside of working out and eating healthy?
A - I love dancing, esp. ballroom and salsa dancing. There was a point right after college when Arthur Murray hired me to be a ballroom dance teacher. Then I decided I didn’t want to be in a studio for like 11 hours a day! But I still love dancing. I also love drawing. Especially fashion sketching and fashion design. I’ve been drawing since forever. Back in elementary school, the group of girls that I used to hang out with during recess and lunch would always ask me to draw pictures of them in the latest outfits. The kids thought I was going to be a artist when I grew up. At least that’s what they put on my Valentines Day cards! Haha. Oh and I also like trivia…I’m not that great but I love a good mind boggler or two.
Q - Are you dating anyone?
A - I guess the best way to answer this right now is…not really ;P
Q - Do you have any pets?
A - I have one pet. His name is Turtle. Yes. And he is a turtle. A red-eared slider that I’ve had for over a decade! My parents bought him for me in Chinatown when he used to be about the size of a quarter. Now he is as big as a notebook!
thatsweetedge asked:
You’re butt blasters video worked wonders for me. I’m finally almost completely content with my body now the only part that I still want to tone is my thighs. No matter how much a run on the treadmill, how much I diet, and how much I do squats and lunges, I cant tone my thighs. They’re thinner but not where I want to be. My calves are so tiny and my legs are strong so I don’t think simple squats and lunges will do anything for me anymore. Pleaseeeee help me. I would be so grateful if you could make a high intensity thigh blaster pop pilates video. I have tried everything and your butt blaster video worked so well for me I know you can come up with something incredible! Please help me reach my goal in time for summer! I will finally have achieved the body I always wanted. I think alot of other girls can benefit from the video too!
Cassey: Thanks for the thigh video suggestion. Have you tried my Legs & Thighs 10 min video yet? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LHfe0rG_THk

Hi Cassey, my name is selmed and I want to ask a favours, can’t the videos be made downloadable so that those of us who have no constant access to internet take them on our computers for use? I really enjoy your videos, keep it up.
Cassey: I am currently looking into making a DVD…but this won’t be for a while. I need to figure out music copyright laws. So, I’m sorry, but right now I cannot make them downloadable.
salmoomah asked:
Hey Cassey! I’ve never done Pilates before, but I discovered your Pop Pilates videos recently and I am absolutely loving them! I think that what you’re doing is a great way to motivate people to get fit and have fun at the same time :) I just have a question about your leg workout though… I’m not looking to tone or reduce any area of my legs in particular (although that would be a welcome side-effect), but I just want a good all-around leg workout. Would using your Legs and Thighs workout be sufficient for that, or would I also need to combine that with Slimmer Inner Thighs and Runner’s Calves? And once my body adjusts to the workout, what would I have to do to make it more intense? Feel free to answer this in my ask. I really appreciate your help! Keep doing what you’re doing because it’s awesome! <3
Cassey: If you are serious about toning your legs, do all of the leg workouts. And once your body adjusts to the workout, I will have more workouts :)

Dear Cassey,
I love your recipes. Where do you take them from/do you know any websites with low calorie + healthy food and recipes?
xoxo
Cassey: I scour the internet for recipes of foods that I just happen to buy that weekend at the farmer’s market. I always link the recipe source at the bottom of each article. The sites that I love are:

Dear Cassey,
You have inspired me so much! Basically, I was in a procrastination rut, always delaying my diet+workout start but now I do your videos 6 time per week and I’m startin to gain confidence (I’ve lost about 12 pounds so far…). I would really like to start to running to gain even more resistance but I’m not sure of how many miles I should start with (bear in mind that I am NOT used to running!). How many do you think?
P.S.: You are beautiful!
Cassey: Thank you for your kind comments. First of all you can’t “gain resistance”. I think you mean improve your cardiovascular endurance. Start with jogging. If you have access to a treadmill, start around 5mph and go for a mile. Then try to go faster every week. Maybe 5.2. then 5.4. Once you get faster, try going for even longer distances! Good luck.
justbeingjess asked:
Hi Cassey,
I have a question about “shins to the air”. During that I have tons of trouble keeping my shoulders relaxed, they always tighten up and lift off of the floor. How can I prevent this?
Cassey: So when you’re in table top position or “shins to the air”, if your abs are weak, then you’re going to try to compensate my pushing your hands into the mat and tensing your neck/shoulders. Try to press your low back into the mat and leave you shins up as long as possible WITHOUT tensing your upper body. Once you start tensing, then release your toes to the floor. Then try again, you’ll get stronger each time. You could also place a rolled towel or pillow under your neck for support. Good luck!
Anonymous asked:
Hey Cassey!
I LOVE your vids but wanted to ask that seeing as you’re doing focus videos like pilates for beginners etc could you possibly do an ‘Overcoming a Plateau’ one? Just a suggestion! I like a challenge! Much love, Regina
Cassey: That’s a great idea. That would probably just be a talking video though because everyone’s plateau will be different. If you’re trying to overcome a stagnant phase, you need to start changing your workout. That’s it. Add new moves that you’ve never done before and the body will get surprised. It will start burning calories faster until it gets more efficient again, at which point you will need to do something new again!
Anonymous asked:
Can Pilates actually make you taller?
Cassey: In a sense, yes, because it will help with your posture so that you won’t walk around slumping anymore. But no it will not lengthen your bones.
Anonymous asked:
Hi Cassey, I suffer with bad lower back pain and I was wondering if you can recommend any exercises to help ease it?
Cassey: Try “cat-cow”. You’re on all fours, palms down, knees down. Then you want to make a dip in your low back (like you’re holding a cup of soup on your low back) and stick your butt up. Now contrast that pose with a perching of the upper back - push the upper back high up into the air so that now your low back is arching in the other direction. This should feel good.
letsfocusonbeingthin asked:
Hey Cassey! I discovered your videos and let me tell you…THANK YOU!!!!! When I first tried your videos I stopped and just watched the video and everyday it just kept getting easier! But one question, Pilates and Yoga are different, but which one is better to lose weight? I know it’s like DUH PILATES because you’re doing more physical work…but I’ve asked a few friends and they all said Yoga is very effective to so I dunno(:
Cassey: Have you read my post on Pilates versus Yoga? Here is the link: http://www.blogilates.com/post/3696273044/pilates-versus-yoga-whats-the-diff-read Both are effective, just make sure you’re pushing yourself to the limit in each exercise and you will see results.
Anonymous asked:
Hey Cassey!
My question is this, I work two different jobs: One is coaching gymnastics/tumbling 4 hours a day and involves alot of walking, catching, lifting and constant movement. The other is working at Subway, which involves constant walking at a pace of about 2-2.5 mph. The only time I’m sitting down is during the 20 minute lunch break. Can I count this as exercise? Should I add up the calories burned towards my calorie deficit? I feel like I’m clueless! Help?
Mary
Cassey: Hi Mary! Great question. Yes you can. But if you’re not seeing the results you want, it means that even with your constant movement, you’re still eating enough calories wipe out chances for weight loss. Does this make sense? Eat more calories than you burn and you will gain weight. Eat less calories than your burn and you will lose weight. Read my post on how to lose weight and find out your basal metabolic rate and your daily energy requirement. http://www.blogilates.com/post/3697883302/figure-out-exactly-how-many-calories-you-need-to

Hey Cassey! Yipeee! You answered my question! Anyways, I think you should become a nutritionist since you’re a great role model for exercise + health. I would totally support you! I’m working on some Pop Pilates designs/slogans, and it’s really fun[: I wanted to know if there were exercises for building up quadriceps. Any ideas? Have a great week!
Love, Lena
Cassey: Cool Lena! I might consider looking more into nutrition. It is so interesting! Have you uploaded your design to the facebook page yet? And yes there are so many exercises for quads! Squats are amazing. Lunges too!
rednblue asked:
Cassey, your workout videos are SO awesome! I love that you incorporate your personality into them. I seriously feel like im working out with one of my friends. Thanks for keeping me motivated! p.s. I can’t wait to have toned awesome legs like you! =)
Cassey: You know, I appreciate you telling me that you feel like you’re working out with one of your friends. I never really thought about it, but I guess I keep it pretty light and informal when I do the videos. But informal lets the personality shine through from my mat to your mat! So that’s pretty cool. Thanks for letting me know!
Anonymous asked:
i heard that no ab xercises are good for ur abs bc it will just built muscle on top of ur fat, thus making ur tummy fatter. PLEASE HELP!!
Cassey: Okay, first of all this is so not true. #1. Ab exercises ARE good because they strengthen your core. If you don’t do ab exercises, how will you tone your midsection? #2. Muscle does NOT lay on top of fat. Muscle is attached to your bone, fat lays on top of muscle. I think what you may have heard is that doing a million crunches won’t get you a six pack. This is true. But you will get a stronger core. Underneath. You have to melt the fat off with cardio.
shyskylark asked:
Hey Cassey
I love the move in the beginning of the butt blaster vid, it feels like I’m doing ballet on the floor. Having been a professional dancer I think it’s great. Do you have any more dancer like exercise moves for pilates?!!!
Cassey: I love that move too! Check out The Bar Method. They are also very ballet and pilates-esque. I can do a video on dance-y moves. That’d be fun.

I love your exercise, you’re an excellent instructor! I lost weight with your exercise and proper diet aid. I workout several times a week after your exercise. You’re the coolest! Alice from Romania
Cassey: Congratulations! This is great news!

Blogilates Q&A for w/e 3/12/2011
For those asking me to write full-length exercise and meal plans for them…I’m really sorry but I cannot do that right now. I appreciate you trusting me enough to give me your personal information and your goals but that would take me an extremely long time to personalize a specific plan of attack for every single person that writes. Perhaps in the future I can create a mini book of meal plans and workout plans that can be emailed to you where you can pick what works best for you based on how much weight you want to lose. I’d team up with some of my personal trainer and nutritionist friends to formulate this - does that sound like something you’d be interested in?

Hey Cassey :)
I was wondering…does it matter if you do cardio workouts before or after your pilates workouts?
Cassey: No it does not matter - I generally like to do them before so that I get all revved up and ready to go crazy on the mat, versus lying down and then getting up. But if you feel like you want to reserve energy for Pilates, then do the cardio after. It does not matter though.
skgodish asked:
can you make a video or do a post of what a healthy combo of food is for the day? There are always suggestions in magazines about what to eat for breakfast lunch and dinner (plus two snacks) but they are always the most inconvenient meals. I need something realistic. Thank you for answering my questions Cassey!
Cassey: Here is what I eat in general day - it is pretty much lean protein and lots of vegetables. The fats are mostly coming from nuts. I hope this is realistic! I never spend that much time in the kitchen. My meals are super simple and super quick!
Breakfast: egg white omelet with mushrooms, red pepper, and spinach. salsa to top.
Snack: raw or roasted almonds, no salt
Lunch: baked chicken breast, sliced, over a bed of romaine lettuce, tomato, and cucumber. light vinegar or vinaigrette dressing.
Snack: baby carrots and all natural peanut butter
Dinner: steamed tilapia with steamed broccoli or green beans. soy sauce and tabasco to taste.

Hi Cassey, you’re pilates videos are amazing. best workout ive ever tried. the thing is im trying to gain weight, in a good way. like.. to look more “heavier” than really skinny, but then at the same time i want to have toned legs and round-shaped butt. If i do Pilates 5x a week will it make me lose more weight? im already skinny though:\ hope i get a feedback from you:)
Cassey: To gain more muscle weight, add protein to your diet and do weight bearing exercise. And if you do Pilates 5x a week and don’t change your diet to include more protein, then yes, possibly you could lose more weight but in general, Pilates is more a toning workout than a calorie blaster so you don’t have to worry about that too much. Great sources of protein include, egg whites, lean meats, beans, and whey protein powder.

Good evening Cassey! I’m really addicted to your pop pilates videos! Music + good workout = genius [:
I had a question about eating habits: Since I have a really big sweet tooth, how do you fight those cravings for candies, cookies and brownies? and are smoothies beneficial for your health?
Thanks! I hope you make more videos soon! They’re a blast to do!
-E
Cassey: Hi E! If you really love eating sweet things, try subbing them out for fruits. These are nature’s candy and they are full of great vitamins that will make your hair and skin look great. Also, a lot of the reason behind why you crave something is because your head is telling you that you want it. But ask yourself next time after you finish a big meal, are you hungry, or do you just want to “taste” it? If you can resist it, don’t eat the cookie. Maybe allow yourself just one cheat day a week where you can eat whatever you want and the rest of the week, be good. Eventually, you’ll feel like you don’t need that cookie anymore. Also, if you want to lose weight and see results quicker, think about the candy as something that will slow you down as you try to reach your goals. Don’t let food have power over you. Smoothies are good, but not 600 calorie ones from McDonalds or Jamba Juice. They are dense and some people drink them WITH MEALS! Eek! That’s calorie mania and you don’t even know it because drinking doesn’t feel like eating. Try making your own smoothie using plain or vanilla nonfat greek yogurt, water or juice, and frozen fruits for the simplest and healthiest kind of smoothie. By using water, you’ll cut out excess sugars and by using greek yogurt, you’ll be getting the protein you need for lean muscle mass production. Good luck!

hi cassey!! i noticed your VERY detailed post about weight loss! i just wanted to thank you for responding so quickly to the message i sent you last week! i hope you didn’t think that i was challenging you on your knowledge of all things health & wellness, because i do consider you a valid source on that. just wanted to make sure the younger kiddies on here are clear on everything. :) as i mentioned, i am extra sensitive to this since my little sister, now 16.. was hospitalized for anorexia by 14 and she still struggles with her body image, and all of the conflicting media out there. you are definitely a role model to a lot of people on here.. keep it up! and yes you should go back to school for nutrition, this is clearly something you are passionate about!

Cassey: Hey! I want to thank you for messaging me about this. That post was most definitely needed. No, I did not feel like you were challenging me at all, and I totally understand where you are coming from. I think a lot of teen girls growing up have this media-implanted dream of skinniness furrowing inside them. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be skinny, but lack of knowledge on proper diet and exercise is scary when attempting to change one’s body. Suddenly, attention to health is thrown out the window and replaced by whatever means it will take to “get skinny”. The sad part is, it doesn’t just stop at physical obsession - a mental body image distortion causes the girl to never be satisfied with her looks. A lack of confidence is the ugliest of all. So thanks for encouraging me to clarify further on the subject of weight loss. Write again! And I hope your sister is doing well.

Hi Cassey!
My question is this: I do your pilates videos about four-five times a week, about two videos each “session” and I really love them and try to switch them around, but will my body come to a point where your videos just won’t work anymore? I am fine with maintaining the muscle and abs I have right now, I love them! But when my body begins to get used to the workouts, will that go away, or will it just not improve?
Thank you!
Cassey: No, your muscles will never just “go away” even if you keep doing the videos and you’re used to them. The only way they can go away is if you cover them with a layer of fat. So if you stop working out or begin to eat more then this will happen. I think your question is more about what happens when the workouts get too easy and you start plateauing. You’ll need to introduce more moves to surprise your body. Luckily, I have a whole arsenal of videos for you so you’ll never get bored!!!

first of all i want to say that i LOVE your video’s! & second hmm is it better to do 1 hour one of your pop cardio video’s or 1 hour of running ?
xxoo
Ellie
Cassey: The Pop Cardio videos are meant to be high intensity intervals. If you can actually do the videos back to back to back to back to back for an hour, which is pretty crazy, then this will be better. In general, the quick moves in the cardio videos are more effective at blasting calories in a shorter amount of time compared to running. But it also matters how fast you are running.

Dear Cassey,
I love love your videos! Especially the music you have on in the background! It makes those 30 minute workouts feel like ten! Regarding pre-workout snacks and meals, how long do I need to wait after eating to exercise? 1 hour at least? Is the time period different for a full breakfast and a snack such as an apple?
Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Love,
Lena
Cassey: If you didn’t have a chance to read my post and watch my video on what to eat before and after a workout, here’s the link: http://www.blogilates.com/post/2996785799/what-to-eat-before-and-after-a-workout-to-lose-weight. Big meals can take somewhere around 3 hrs to digest. Small meals, an hour or even 30 min if it’s really small like an apple.

Can you do pilates with sneakers on?

Girl, I just want to say I love what you’re doing with this whole small business, ogorgeous, pop pilates, blogilates, healthy lifestyle, mini-mogul empire. I really admire when young women break the mold and make a business doing the thing they love. Anyhoo on to my question, I’ve been a practitioner of pilates on and off for about 2.5 years. I’ve been following your pop pilates videos since about mid January. Now I admit that I don’t know everything about pilates, but it seems to moves in the Pop Pilates videos aren’t strictly pilates moves, but perhaps borrow from the Bar Method? I haven’t had a chance to practice the Bar Method, but from what I’ve seen there seems to be some similarities. So I guess my question is, how do you come up with the move sets for Pop Pilates? Do you consciously adopt moves from various types of exercise (i.e. Yoga, classic Pilates, the Bar Method, the Dailey Method, etc), or do you go into the studio and just kind of wing it with general knowledge of Pilates-esque exercises? Anyhoo, like I said I love what you’re doing, I’m an avid fan, I look forward to your updates, and you’ve inspired me to get the ball rolling on my own small business empire! :)
-Nancy
Cassey: Hey Nancy! What an inspirational post. What small business “empire” are you thinking of building? Yes, I LOVE doing what I love, but trust me, it hasn’t always been that way. It’s been a journey for sure. Maybe I’ll write on that later. To answer your question about my moves, you are absolutely right that it’s not STRICTLY Pilates. The core of my moves are classical Pilates moves (like the hundred, the double leg lift, the single straight leg, teaser, etc.) but I find that set to be limited, especially since I’ve been practicing for a while now. It can get boring. So I’ve taken the 6 principles that make up Pilates (centering, concentration, control, breath, flow, precision) and tailored new moves around them. I actually just got introduced to the Bar Method last week, so nope, I wasn’t borrowing from them! But I did see that the Bar Method is very very similar to Pilates! I also watch fitness videos and take moves that I like and add a dancy/elegant twist to it. Makes it fun to let your body try new things constantly!
Anonymous asked:
Hello Cassey,
You’ve had a similar question already but mine is a little more specific. I am currently taking a pilates class and I love it! But I am moving to South Korea in the summer and I thought your videos would be a great way to keep up with the pilates on my own. However I am trying to figure out what equipment I need to take with me considering it has to come on the plane :/ I was thinking a big balance ball (a pump), resistance bands but then I was wavering between fitness circle, the small (8in) soft ball and was wondering about the small hand weights (thats an extra 4-10 pounds depending on which ones I bring) do they have them as water weights? (meaning: you fill it up with water to create the weight) I just want to know which ones you think are the true “essentials”. Thank you so much. Sorry I’m a little long winded :)
Marcie
Cassey: Hey Marcie, honestly, I really love doing mat work without any equipment because your body is the best tool. Most of the classes I teach don’t have enough “toys” for everything so we simply don’t use them but that’s no biggie. We still get a great workout in. I think the “true essential” is the mat, but even then you could just do you work on a carpeted floor!
Anonymous asked:
Hey Cassey,
I have a hard time doing cardio on the elliptical or treadmill because I always end up with horrible headaches that last the entire day! What do you suggest I do in order to lose weight? Pilates are fine, but the running/cardio intensity gives me headaches.
Cassey: You should talk to your doctor about why running and cardio training gives you headaches. It could be that you are trying to go too hard, too fast, too soon. Go steady and speed up every week so your body has a chance to get used to the new exercises you’re doing. Maybe it’s in shock. But if the headaches still persist, try fun and lighter impact cardio classes like dancing or Zumba. Also, make sure you’re drinking enough water and eating a little. Whenever I am dehydrated and hungry, I get a headache just sitting around doing nothing.

Good luck!

You are such an inspiration! Love your videos! :)

You have an amazing body! Would you mind telling me approximately your weight and height, so I can set myself a good goal?

Thanks

Xoxo

Cassey: Hmm, I contemplated whether or not I should answer this but I’m going to be transparent. As of yesterday afternoon, I was 123 lbs. I am 5’ 5”. But remember, we are all built differently so don’t get stuck on the numbers!

hi cassey!! i noticed your VERY detailed post about weight loss! i just wanted to thank you for responding so quickly to the message i sent you last week! i hope you didn’t think that i was challenging you on your knowledge of all things health & wellness, because i do consider you a valid source on that. just wanted to make sure the younger kiddies on here are clear on everything.

Luckily, I have a whole arsenal of videos for you so you’ll never get bored!!!

does only one slice contains 36 kcal or it’s at 100g?

Cassey: Ok so it says 2 ripe bananas makes 6 servings. So 1/3 of a banana is 36 calories.

Anonymous asked:

heyyy cassey <3

first of all i want to say that i LOVE your video’s!

Anonymous asked:

Hey Cassey, thanks for the workout today :)

Just a thought, what about using 80’s pop music in one of your vids? Could be fun!

Thanks,

Ashley, from New Zealand

Cassey: Hi Ashley from New Zealand! That’s a great idea. I could even wear leg warmers!!!

Anonymous asked:

Anonymous asked:

Can you do pilates with sneakers on?

Cassey: Yes, you can. I don’t do it because I like pointing my feet, and wearing shoes makes it hard to do that.

Anonymous asked:

Dear Cassey,

Thank you so much for all of your AMAZING videos!

Would it be possible for you to do a total body video based on the magic circle (or Pilates ring)? I just love this little gizmo ;-)

Thanks again and many blessings to you.

Cassey: Yes, great idea.
